Off course, the administrator can never forget to
install the SolarisTM Patches.
Specifically to VnmrJTM, after adding a new user, you
also need to rerun dbupdate as vnmr1 from the
Unix
prompt.
- You cannot move to a certain experiment library, say Exp3, and get
the message ``Forground process active'':
- try unlock(3), for Exp3. If it does not work,
open a unix terminal, type rm $HOME/vnmrsys/lock*.
Go to Vnmr(J) prompt and retry jexp3
- Vnmr(J) display wrong colors in the middle spectrum window (SolarisTM only)
- There are different reasons for that. Try to close Netscape or
colorfull applications running and restart Vnmr.
See the Section 3.3 to possibly avoid these problem in the future.
- You type svf('filename') and has the error message
``cannot create file filename.fid'':
- you are maybe in wrong directory.
Type cd in Vnmr(J) prompt if you want to save in your home directory.
Alternatively check if expN existis with explib
- Library does not work:
- In VnmrJ (not in classical Vnmr) you can not see the
library info (about the expN experiments) on the left-button
side of VnmrJ window. You probrably changed user configuration,
added a new user or so and did not run dbupdate.
Run dbupdate as vnmr1 from the Unix
prompt.
- Cannot open expt:
- you cannot open your own saved expts.
Check the following:
- Check if the library directory gives permission.
For example, if you are in exp1, open a Unix
prompt and type
ls -l $vnmruser|grep exp1.
The first column of the output must be sth like
drwxr-xr-x. If the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th charachters are
not rwx, type in a Unix
shell
chmod u+rwx $vnmruser/exp1
You better try man chmod to understand what you are doing.
- Check if the subdirectories datdir and acqfil exist
inside $vnmruser/exp1
- If you are running VnmrJ, try to open the same expt with Vnmr
(type vn in the Unix
shell). If you can open, login as vnmr1 and
run dbupdate.
