SWS = weekly hours throughout the teaching period of a semester

Biochemie

Basic biochemistry

Lecture for biotechnology students at the Staatliche Technikerschule Berlin (State School for Technicians Berlin)

2 SWS

Winter semester 2007

The lecture is designed for biotechnology students of the 2. Bildungsweg (2nd track for academic training). The students have a different background regarding their working experience obtained in different positions, mostly on the level of technical assistants in biosciences or medicine.

Biochemie Blockpraktikum, Blockteil Proteine

Biochemistry lab course, the protein part

Lecture, seminar, practical lab course and colloquium (student talks) for undergraduate biochemistry students

compulsory course

6 SWS

each semester from winter 2005 to summer 2007

This is the central lab course for teaching basic biochemistry before the intermediate examination (“Vordiplom”). I was responsible for a 3-week teaching unit on proteins.

Biochemistry of Cell Organelles

Lecture for advanced biochemistry students in English

2 SWS (my part: 0.75 SWS)

Summer semester 2001

Organized in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Ralf Erdmann, PD Dr. Matthias Ziegler and Dr. Hans-Peter Rottensteiner

My sections: biochemistry and cell biology of the endoplasmic reticulum and the cell nucleaus; biosynthesis of membranes; biosynthesis and export of proteins; membrane traffic; calcium signalling; structural and functional organisation of the cell nucleus; nucleocytoplasmic transport; cell cycle.

With this lecture, we successfully complemented teaching biochemistry at the Freie Universität with modern aspects of cell biology.

Einführung in die Neurochemie

Introduction into neurochemistry

Lecture and seminar for advanced biochemistry students

2 SWS

each summer semester from 1998 to 2002

Organized in collaboration with Prof. Dr. F. Hucho

Einführung in die Neurochemie

Introduction into neurochemistry

Practical lab course and seminar for advanced biochemistry students,

5 SWS (P) and 2 SWS (S)

summer and winter semester 1987

Participation as Tutor (student teaching assistant)

Mechanismen der Stoffwechselregulation

Mechanisms of metabolic regulation

Practical lab course and seminar for advanced biochemistry students

5 SWS (P) and 2 SWS (S)

each semester from summer 1991 to winter 1993

Mitarbeiten

Lab internships

Biochemistry students actively participated for 4 to 6 weeks in working on current research projects.

Neurochemie und Regulation

Neurochemistry and regulation

Practical lab course and seminar for advanced biochemistry students

5 SWS

each semester from winter 1997 to summer 2006

This course combined teaching molecular aspects of neurochemistry and mechanisms of cellular signal transduction.

Radiochemie für Biochemiker, Teil 2

Radiochemistry for biochemistry students, second part

Practical lab course and seminar for advanced biochemistry students

2.5 SWS

summer and winter semester since winter 2005

The course provides an overview of the use of radioactivity in the biosciences. Students are trained to safely perform experiments involving radioactivity. It is one of three courses, which together enable graduates to act as radiosafety “officials” (“Strahlenschutzbeauftragte”).
