This compendium is a working example of tables of every type and description. There are multiple nested tables in a working presentation. If you find something that you might want to use, merely view the source code or save the page and modify it to suit your requirements. I have not used <col>, <colgroup>, <thead>, <tbody> or <tfoot> simply because I cannot find a working model and Netscape doesn't appear to support them. The only time I have seen them implemented has been with an HTML editor that automatically put them in. But I could not control the table so I took them out. The idea is certainly valid but the implementation is lacking. Perhaps, in the vaporware world there is an implementation that will eventually make it to market.
