Microsoft developed a concept they called "floating frames". The original "Netscape" Frames relate to the entire screen and divide the screen into individual "browsers". Floating frames serve the same function except the frame is presented into part of a "normal" <body> defined page. The effect is a browser inserted into a normal HTML page.

MSIE 3.0 DTD lists four common attributes for this tag: "class=", "id=", "lang=, and "style=". However, <frame> is never used by itself -- it always includes the <body> tag where such attributes make more sense. It is possible that they are included in error. For that reason, they are not include here.

This example works with MSIE 3+.

This causes the alignment of the floating frame to the left, center or right of the page. I have found no reference to any of the other common align= arguments. Left, center and right appear to be the only ones.

It must be noted that the deprecation of the align= attribute is from the HTML 4.0 recommendation. Since Microsoft is the major proponent of <iframe> their standard would be more important. To that end, the arguments are not deprecated.

hspace=
Establishes white space on the horizontal edges of the floating frame. The function is the same as "hspace=" in the <img> tag. The argument is expressed in pixels.

This is the pointer to the page to be inserted into the "floating frame". It references a complete HTML page. It is the same syntax as that used for the <frame> tag. vspace=
