The <del> tag is used to identify text that has been deleted from a document. The text remains but it is usually struck out or marked in some form as to indicate it having been removed from the document. The opposite is the <ins> tag.

This is <del>deleted</del> text as demonstrated by your browser.

This attribute takes a URL as its argument. It is intended to point to another document explaining why this specific change was made.
