This is the method of invoking a Java program. It has been deprecated in favour of the <object> tag.

MSIE 3.0 DTD stipulates that four standard attributes apply to this tag. They are "class=", "id=", "lang=" and "style=". None of the other browsers use these attributes and there is no logical reason that they be included here. It is possible that it is an error in the MSIE 3.0 DTD.
