| The Association of the Friends and Sponsors of DESY (German Electron Synchrotron) in Hamburg (Germany) gave an Award (6000,- DM) for the best Ph. D. thesis of the year 2000 to the 31 years old Dr. rer. nat. Ralf Flaig from the Research Group of Prof. Dr. Peter Luger. | ||
| In his Ph. D. thesis (''Neue experimentelle Methoden der Ladungsdichtebestimmung'') Ralf Flaig introduces the combination of synchrotron radiation and Area Detection (CCD) for high resolution X-ray diffraction experiments for the first time. Therefor it is now possible to visualize fine electronically details of chemical bonds. | ||
| The chemists Pople and Kohn won the Nobel prize two years ago for their theoretical works on charge density determination of chemical structures, and now the experimental standards from Ralf Flaig make it possible to enlarge the theoretical work to the experimental site in a wide range. | ||
