Joint
Meeting
of the International Society for Neurochemistry (ISN)
and the European Society for Neurochemistry (ESN),
to be held in Berlin, Germany from August 8 - 14, 1999
SATELLITE MEETINGS
Cellular and molecular mechanisms of drugs
of abuse: cocaine, ibogaine and substituted amphetamines
August 3-6, 1999 - Copenhagen, Denmark
Meeting place: The Scandic Hotel, Copenhagen
Organizers: Syed F. Ali (Jefferson, AR, USA), Yasuo Takahashi (Sapporo, Japan), Kunio Yui (Urawa, Japan), M. A. Tavares (Oporto, Portugal), Anthony D. Gee (Aarhus, Denmark)
Format: Invited lectures and posters
Travel connections to main meeting: Daily direct flights from Copenhagen and several daily direct trains to Berlin.
Registration fee: US$ 250 (before March 31, 1999) or US$ 300 (after March 31, 1999)
Program: Cocaine, methamphetamine and MDMA, the most widely abused drugs, cause neurotoxicity in several species. However, the neurochemical mechanisms underlying this drug-induced neurotoxicity remain unclear. The meeting will bring together basic scientists and clinical investigators from the international community to provide new conceptional insights into CNS acting drugs and drugs of abuse, and treatment of drug addiction. In 5 sessions the meeting will address the following: 1) Gene expression, cocaine addiction and neurochemical mechanisms; 2) Drugs of abuse and medication development; GBR, g-hydroxybutyrate, ibogaine and cocaine congeners; 3) Molecular biology and free radicals in drugs of abuse-induced neurotoxicity; 4) Substituted amphetamines-induced neurochemical changes and relationship to neurotoxicity; 5) Drugs of abuse and imaging brain structure and function.
