SATELLITE MEETINGS

Inducible transcription factors in the brain
August 14-17, 1999 – Rydzyna, Poland

Organizer: Leszek Kaczmarek, Warsaw, Poland

Format: Invited speakers, short oral communications or posters

Travel conncetions from main meeting: Regular flights or trains from Berlin to Warsaw; bus transportation from Warsaw to Rydzyna will be provided.

Deadline for registration and abstracts: March 15, 1999

Program: The discovery of c-fos/AP-1 nuclear protooncogene, the first inducible transcription factor (ITF) activated by neuronal activity in the brain has been followed by the identification of other such factors ZIF/268, CREB, ELK, CREM/ICER, and NF-kB. Since, then, it has been found that c-fos expression is dependent on signal transduction pathways that originate at the cell membrane and that this transcription factor orchestrates rapid genomic responses to changes in extracellular environment. The meeting is designed to bring together international specialists to present their recent results and to discuss the impact of these findings in such diverse phenomena as neuronal plasticity, including learning and memory, and programmed cell death in neurodegenerative diseases.

Speakers: S. Amir, K.V. Anokhin, D. Bartsch, A. Chaudhuri, M. Dragunow, Y. Dudai, I. Ferrer, T. Herdegen, L. Kaczmarek, B. Kaminska, J. Kuznicki, M. Montminy, K. Pennypacker, R. Przewlocki, H.A. Robertson, A. Routtenberg, W. Schwartz, M. Segal, A.J. Silva, D.R. Storm, Z. Xia, J. Yin
