Joint Meeting
of the International Society
for Neurochemistry (ISN)
and the European Society for
Neurochemistry (ESN),
to be held in Berlin, Germany
from August 8 - 14, 1999
LETTER OF INVITATION
On behalf of all the Officers of both the International Society for Neurochemistry (ISN) and the European Society for Neurochemistry (ESN) we cordially invite you to join us in Berlin for the Joint Meeting.
Dr. Ferdinand Hucho (Berlin, Germany) and his Local Host Committee welcome you to the beautiful campus of the Freie Universität and to the dynamic city of Berlin.
We would like to thank the Program Committee and its chairman, Dr. Denis Monard (Basel, Switzerland), for preparing such an outstanding and highly topical scientific program.
In 1997, over 1500 participants convened in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, for ISN's successful Joint Meeting with the American Society for Neurochemistry (ASN). Join us in Berlin in 1999 for another most exciting and fruitful Congress that will include novel features: A Plenary Lecture each day, Colloquia featuring 48 outstanding young scientists from all over the world and extended time for viewing Poster Sessions. The stimulating scientific venue includes 5 Plenary Lectures, 16 Symposia, 12 Young Investigator Colloquia, Poster Sessions, Daily Workshops, 5 Pre-Meeting Satellites and 5 Post-Meeting Satellites.
Please encourage also your colleagues to submit abstracts for Poster Sessions before February 8, 1999.
The ISN sponsors an educational program, The ISN Advanced School of Neurochemistry, designed for the dissemination of knowledge in the fields of molecular and cellular brain research. The topic for this Biennial Meeting will be "Gene Transfers and Transgenics in the Nervous System: Virtues and Caveats". Young investigators are invited to apply for this Fourth Advanced School of Neurochemistry which is being held in the charming town of Wörlitz, not far from Berlin, on August 4-8, 1999.
In the ISN Travel Award Program the ISN encourages young investigators to apply for an ISN Travel Grant in order to allow them to attend the ISN/ESN Meeting.
The ISN aims to recognize research achievements of promising young scientists. Up to two young scientists, 38 years of age or younger at the time of proposal, may be given ISN Young Scientist Lectureship Awards. Similarly, also ESN will award one or two ESN Lectureships for promising neurochemists. For both Societies, the award consists of a paid trip to the ISN/ESN Joint Meeting, where the lecturers will present a 30 minutes lecture each. Nominations are requested from senior scientists.
We look forward to seeing you in Berlin next August.

President of ESN
